Arriving at Blanzay Formerly called Blanzais, it is situated in the township of Civray, in the surrounding of Montmorillon, at Poitou, the départment of Vienne, is a small community population of 800, situated a few kilometers South of Poitiers.
The Blanzay Church and the Château de la Mollière, close by, were built in the 15th century. Jean Baudet was baptised in this church.
Saint-Euverte D’Orléans Our ancestor, Marie Grandin, was baptized in the parish of Saint-Euverte d’Orléans. Orléans is today, the heart the Loiret department, and is situated on the Loire, about 125 kilometers south of Paris. It was formerly a monastery named after Saint-Euverte, bishop of Orléans in the 4th Century. (The church is closed to all since 2002)
The port de La Rochelle Jean Beaudet, our ancestor, left the port of La Rochelle in april 1664, with about 50 young people aboard, hired to comeans settle in Canada. Marie Grandin left La Rochelle in 1670. She married Jean Baudet a few weeks after her arrival in Québec City.
A XVII century sail boat Jean Baudet our ancestor crossed the Atlantic Ocean on a small ship called "Noir dAmsterdam" or "Noir-de-Hollande" with Pierre Filly de Dieppe as captain. The ship arrived in Quebec City on May 25, 1664. |
